You Say “Doom and Gloom” Like It’s a Bad Thing
A BMT Mixtape for Halloween
I started this mixtape a few weeks ago after discovering my third song but then put it aside.
Earlier this week, loyal BMT follower, Drake J. Stone, made an unofficial challenge. That was all I needed to give myself the latitude to really go for it with my latest mixtape. I knew that I wanted to revisit this theme and create something unexpected.
As y’all know I enjoy a very broad spectrum of music. When I’m crafting my mixtapes, there are some that I know will be more…accessible, I suppose is the word.
And then there is the occasional mixtape that I know is on another planet. (My celebration of late 80s industrial music, for example.)
I love what I’ve created today, but I acknowledge that it’s spiky and dark and challenging in its own way.
This is the music of my teen years. The darkwave sliver of alt 80s still pulls me to it. It touches a part of me that no other style of music does. But I also realize that it’s alienating to a lot of people.
So, if today’s mixtape misses the mark for you, that’s okay! I’ve got some other ideas percolating that I’m really excited about — and they won’t be this moody!
