This is 6 years old and the downtown density is now an additional 30–40% (no joke) PLUS the starting point of this interactive is 1997 (rather than your visit of 1989), but it will give you an inkling of why Austin isn’t keepin’ it as weird these days.

Your FAR more likely to see a chick with a tat sleeve or a dude with a beard than any sign of a cowboy hat, but pockets of town still retain the old vibe.

The Californians continue to flood in and I don’ think that is likely to change, so I anticipate Austin will continue to grow exponentially.

The music scene lives up to the hype and green spaces can still be found, though I prefer Houston for food, culture, and fashion.

I will say: Texans LOVE Texas and fellow Texans! I still feel like an outsider and I’ve been here for 20 years!
