Thanks for the kind words, Helen Cassidy Page! And thanks for sharing!
To my knowledge, there are no legal issues with embedding YouTube links into stories. I know of a few others who have done it as well (particularly at Song Done Wrong — all the parody writers do it).
Here is a link to an (admittedly not particularly helpful) Medium story about embeds:
Tips and tricks for Medium writers
Make the best out of Medium as a writer with these hints.
Adding a YouTube link is essentially like adding a photo link. I always use the “add a video” option adjacent to the “add a photo” option, so it’s a similar process.
As for an official playlist, I created exactly one on Spotify when I first started Bonnie’s Mixed Tape and embedded it into my story using either the “add a video” or “add an embed” option. (I kick around using that Spotify playlist format again, but haven’t done so since that one and only story in 2017.)
I hope that my tips/pointers have proven helpful. I figure if I (the greatest Luddite of Gen-X) can figure it out, pretty much anyone can! Furthermore, I have generated over 100 BMT mixtapes over the past 2 1/2 years. Some of my stories have 20 YouTube links. I reckon I’ve shared EASILY over 500 songs (shoot, could be 1000 songs by now) and I’ve never had any issues with my links. (Knock on wood)
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
