Thank you for reading and responding, Karin!

I have custody of my son about 85% of the time, teach at an isolated campus (it would practically be a felony to date my community college students) and there is no one else on campus to date, and my son goes to a Catholic school (not a hotbed of single guys). (And I’m introverted — not socially awkward, but not a life of the party person either.)

I’m not from Austin originally, never seem to meet anyone (have been asked out by exactly one guy in all these years), and even my friends cancel on me. I have asked friends out at least 30 times this year. In return, I have been asked to do something maybe 3 or 4 times. It’s tough!

I’ll just leave it with that. The bottom line: without online dating, there would be no dating.

But my son is getting older and my time may finally free up to allow me to get out more than my situation has allowed me to thus far.

Your advice is sound, I love Jane Austen (I just saw Sense and Sensibility on the big screen in downtown Austin over the weekend — what a treat since I hadn’t seen it at a theater since its release), and I will keep trying to make new friends (though my luck even in trying to find friends has been rather unfortunate).

Best wishes!
