A BMT Mixtape
I struggled with this one a bit because I wanted to incorporate the bands that the fabulous Evelyn Martinez mentioned as some of her go-tos.
In the end, I did what I always do: take the inspiration and tilt it through my Bonnie musical kaleidoscope.
My title might be slightly misleading since I did include one band that doesn’t have any women in it. But I’m an equal opportunist and I think it fits well into the overall mood I wanted to convey.
Evie’s writing has a confidence, almost a brashness to it that makes for compelling reading.
She’s also got a twinkle in her eye, too, if you look for it. A little wink at her audience — can you see how absurd this is?
Today I’ve attempted to harness that energy I see in her writing with some bands and singers that bring a combination of integrity, grit, and resolve in a rockin’ package.
This mixtape isn’t about a theme as much as a vibe I’m trying to capture. I hope you feel it and I hope you’ll check out Evie’s writing, too!
