I was tiptoeing back into life when I smashed into a vintage concrete elephant at a store I had ventured to on Mother’s Day afternoon.

Immediately, my shin throbbed and a baseball-sized lump popped up. My entire body was jolted by the impact. Within a few hours, my back was bothering me, too.

After weeks of being reclusive and multiple visits to my team (acupuncturist, chiropractor, and massage therapist), the one bright spot in my health progress was the improvement in my legs and lower back pain.

Sure, my face still tingles. My eyes burn and my burning mouth syndrome is in full force. But my piriformis had receded and it appeared I was healing.

I was in tears as I drove away from the store. I was so frustrated with myself. Why didn’t I just stay home? I had almost healed my back earlier this year, but then overdid it when I was on my Europe trip (planned prior to my learning about my herniated/bulging discs).

I started over and had almost healed myself again, but this ridiculous mishap — on Mother’s Day no less! — derailed my progress.

In the meantime, I learned just 3 weeks earlier that my son would be living with me since his college doesn’t offer…
