Ric Ocasek Drives Off With Eddie Money
A BMT Mixtape
Ric Ocasek of the Cars (natch) and Eddie Money died two days apart.
They might not have shared the same musical aesthetic but they overlapped on the radio (and eventually MTV) in the late 70s and the 80s, capturing the hearts of millions.
I never saw the Cars perform, but did have a chance to see Eddie Money a few years ago at the intimate One World Theatre in Austin. (That venue is one of the very best in Austin — I highly recommend catching a show there!)
Eddie’s voice was shot, but he was a wonderful showman. His joy on stage was obvious and his spiritedness infectious.
It was a dream to hear some of my favorite late 70s/80s radio pop hits performed live!
To lose these two 80s chart-toppers pains the Gen-X soul.
To ease the loss, I’ve selected four live performances to celebrate these musical greats.
Thank you to Ric and to Eddie for contributing to the soundtrack of our lives!
