One of the first questions I get when I tell a new potential suitor that I teach is whether my students ask me out.

It’s actually happened only twice in 28 semesters of teaching. Sort of — nothing happened during the semester they were my students. One of the stories is pretty crazy (although absolutely nothing happened between us, it’s still wild by my tame standards) and the other was a Lifetime movie.

I’ve been called someone’s “bae” and a couple of guys have blown kisses at me when no one else was looking. (Am I a terrible person for admitting that those things still crack me up? I don’t feel violated or objectified. There was something sweet, if ridiculous, about it.)

I remain really discreet about these sort of flirtations, though. Mostly, I want to avoid any accusations of impropriety.

I ramble. In any case, I enjoyed this story and glad it popped up in my feed!
