Oh, yes, the “what are you looking for” question that REALLY means: I don’t care what you are looking for unless your answer is some version of “sex”. Because the dude who is inquiring has already shown his hand. He is on [insert name of dating app] for sex. Period. He has no interest in getting to know you other than to ask an obligatory two or three questions to appear like he’s not a complete asshole. (He’s not fooling anyone who has been on a dating app for more than 24 hours. That dude is indeed an asshole.)

Even worse, if YOUR answer is anything other than “sex”, you will be completely ignored, blocked/unmatched, and never acknowledged again in any way.

It’s all so exhausting. And an unbelievably callous way to treat another human.
