No, I don’t want to review this trampoline. Or my gorgeous (but now discontinued) shade of red nail polish. Or the nail technician who gives the best pedicure not just in Austin but in the world. Or the brand of razors I use to shave my legs. Or the dating app I posted this photo to.

In recent months, American tipping prevalence has gotten a lot of attention, but I haven’t seen anyone rant about the oversaturation of review culture.

I’m happy to take on that role even if it makes me a villain.

On the one hand, I can appreciate the importance of reviews. We’ve all used them as a tool for finding a new product or service.

But I feel relentlessly hounded regarding EVERY item or service in my life.

My car gets serviced? I’m going to get multiple texts asking me to rate the service. Invariably I blow it off, but then I get a follow-up text saying that the car tech’s pay will be impacted by my not responding. What? Don’t put that on me!

I just want to take my car to the shop. I know I’m going to be ripped off. I expect that. I pay my bill. I drive away.

My part of the deal is done. I’m not obligated to review my tech and the service and the dealership and the…
