Like John Heineman, I immediately thought of the saying “Better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt”, which hung on my Freshman English teacher’s wall along with other quotes. I have subscribed to that principle for all of my life, though: (1) I’m an introvert so that probably makes it easier and (2) I’m fallible so I don’t always succeed in adhering to this quote.

I’m sorry that you had to learn such a difficult lesson in such a public way. Twitter terrifies and mystifies me! Facebook (and my own blog) still feel pretty narcissistic to me, but obviously I ignore those feelings as much as I can.

In any case, your article was a good reminder for me to follow my natural instincts of reflecting before sharing/writing.
