I’ve only been writing for a few months (while dating for years), but I have LOTS of stories about dating against type: the guy who intentionally tried to make me cry on our first date (there was no second); the charming but exhausting extrovert who literally danced in the streets for part of our date (he is an amazing, inspirational person, but I was tired after 2 hours with him); the guy who thought it was cool to expose himself to me within knowing each other for 2 hours; and the guy who mocked my not drinking.

That excludes all the guys that I texted, messaged, and spoke with on the phone who: weren’t actually divorced, only talked about work, or made it clear that they were only interested in having sex with me. (None of those are my type either — there was no date at all.)

The wonderful thing about interacting with and dating so many guys over the past 4+ years is that I have definitely learned what my type IS and what it is NOT.

I shared that specific story because it most succinctly communicated my newfound peace in no longer feeling guilt for dating “my type.” Additionally, I hoped it might resonate with some other folks who have been in the dating trenches and reached the same conclusion.

But your response may be the catalyst for my sharing those additional experiences!

Thank you for reading!
