My Five Life-Defining Movies
While working on Pierce McIntyre’s most recent prompt, I was taken back to 2018. I’ve been writing on Medium for so long that I can remember a time when a ragtag group of us intersected about the same time. We supported each other, had a wonderful synergy, and participated in a lot of writing prompts.
That group blew up for complicated reasons. The fallout was so disheartening I considered not writing anymore. In fact, some of our group was so disgusted they are no longer here. Others took a break. Others flourished and turned victimhood into a lucrative artform.
When the dust cleared, I kept writing but Mediumland had changed for me. In fact, the magic of writing during 2018 has never returned. I assume it never will for me. But! Pierce’s prompt, my writing on The Riff, the return of Assemblage, and my longtime (and brand new) followers have re-energized me in 2022.
This particular prompt brought me back to my very favorite days on Medium. There are a number of folks responsible for that feeling — from Kevin Alexander to Simon Dillon to Jonathan Greene to Mark Starlin to Niki Marinis to No Words, No Song and of course, Pierce himself. I’ve left off so many others!
