Though “What’s Going On” isn’t my favorite Marvin Gaye song, it’s as iconic as they come! I’m the first to admit that it’s a very special accomplishment and one of the finest songs from the last century!
As always, I’ve searched far and wide to uncover my personal picks — from the unusual to old favorites to fabulous live performances.
Something that was interesting to me while working on today’s story is the realization that a whole new generation has fallen under Marvin Gaye’s spell. What a cool surprise!

I don’t mind the instrumental, but I found myself anxious to hear Aloe Blacc’s voice (which kicks in at 1:20)!
This is a cool, jazzy-esque performance and the Berklee musicians are perfectly fine, but there’s no other way to say this: Mr. Blacc is the star.
