I wrote a response to someone who made a similar comment, but I can’t easily track it down, so I’ll paraphrase it.

Obviously, I had “luck” back in the previous century of finding people without the Internet. But fast forward to 2014 on…

I have been asked out by exactly 3 people in the past 4 years. One of them didn’t really ask me “out” as much as invite me to join him and his wife for a threesome. I declined.

I wrote a story about one of them (here). And I was not interested in the 3rd person.

Anyhoo, I teach at a remote college campus, have about 85% custody of my son, and my son attends a tiny Catholic school (not a hotbed of single dudes). If I didn’t use dating apps, I would have no dating life. It’s a necessary evil for me, I suppose.

I inquired about one cute guy a few weeks ago at a soccer game — turns out he was married (thank goodness I hadn’t approached him)! I just asked out a guy on Bumble a couple of weeks ago. I never heard a word from him. Not even “no.” Just…nothing. (My point: I’m not afraid to ask guys out either, though I have not had that much success.)

I would LOVE being the chick who runs into cute, single dudes and has tons of dates with guys she meets while evaluating produce or attending a concert. Sadly, that is not my reality.

I’m always glad to hear when someone has a success story regardless of the mechanism! I’m so happy you and your wife found each other!

In any case, thank you for reading my random dating tales, xerxes aga!
