I was just coming to write a lengthier version of what Dan Moore so succinctly conveyed. The subject was fascinating to me but it was so well written, too!
I studied in London in the fall of ’92 — what a time! Windsor Castle caught on fire, Di and Charles broke up, and the IRA bombings resumed in that short 3 to 4 month window.
I go back whenever I can and have to suppress a dorky, beaming grin (I try to blend in — smiling would be a dead give away I’m a bloody American) whenever I’m near the Thames, in St. James Park, the V&A, Covent Garden…okay, pretty much anywhere except certain tube stations at 5 pm when it’s raining outside.
Count me as one of the American women who’s absolute kryptonite is a good or even decent British accent. I’ve only met one Brit here in America who was so dumb (bless his heart) that his accent couldn’t compensate.
Give me flowers from Liberty and McVities from Tesco or give me death!
So glad you shared your writing with us today!
