I think being attracted to each other is critical!

I am either attracted to someone or I’m not. I really can’t think of a single friendship (with no feelings of initial attraction) that evolved into a true romance. So, for me, it would never be a true friends first — it would be romantic inclinations but (for whatever reason) we never acted on those impulses. Or were delayed in acting upon those impulses.

I have such a cut-and-dried personality, though: friends stay friends.

I’m thrilled to learn that your friendship developed into a healthy relationship for you! I always say: whatever works for you is the key!
