I Found a Kindred Spirit in Hungary

Budapest has been on my bucket list since I was 20. I finally made it there this summer. I knew I wanted to maximize my (and my son’s) inaugural trip to Hungary, so I reached out to a highly recommended tour guide. She was fully booked but offered to secure another guide for us. I took her up on her offer.
We met Susanna at our hotel and drove down to Lake Balaton. It was a gorgeous day to visit the Caribbean of Hungary. The lake is massive and has a resort feel.
Within 30 minutes of our arrival, Susanna and I realized that we had lots in common. She declared: “I wish we could be friends!” I returned the sentiment, adding: “I don’t like very many people but I would want to be friends with you, too!
In middle age, it’s not easy to find new friends. I’m tickled that I found a kindred spirit all the way in Budapest!
After two wonderful days, we parted ways but decided to stay in touch. In fact, when I returned to Europe this past September, I extended an invitation for Susanna to join me in London as my guest. To my shock and delight, she said she could!
Regrettably, #bonnieluck reared its head. Susanna’s flights were canceled so she wasn’t able to meet me after all. Obviously, I was disappointed for myself, but…
