Through my exhaustion, I look at the clock. 4 am.

I still can’t breathe despite taking copious amounts of every over-the-counter nasal decongestion my body can tolerate.

I’d learned in my mid-20s that I can’t handle Sudafed. I become a crazed insomniac. I’ve never been at risk of being a methhead because I can’t even tolerate Sudafed!

That means I’ve had limited options to treat congestion over my entire adult life. The over-the-counter options barely worked, but they were all I had.

I glare at the clock and defiantly get up. I take every medication and hurl each one into the trash can.

I. am. done.

I think about a few months earlier when I had a painful throat infection. I’d never experienced anything like it and was becoming so desperate that I considered going to the ER in the middle-of-nowhere Mississippi.

I tried to make an appointment with a recommended ENT doctor but was rebuffed since I was a new patient. There were no openings for days.

I pivoted and sent an e-mail to my son’s trusted homeopathic doctor in Austin. He responded with a recommendation of something I’d never heard of: colloidal…
