It’s true that each of these songs is from the 80’s, but I’ve taken some liberties by labeling each of these male singers as alt-80’s.
For those of us versed in the alt-80’s music scene, though, we know that it has a lot of branches and it can get a little hazy who exactly qualifies as part of that movement.
It’s probably more accurate to call Boy George, Tony Hadley, and Martin Fry part of the new-wave arm of the alternative-80’s music scene. I suspect that only Bryan Ferry would be universally designated as true alt-80's. Marti Pellow is surely my most, ahem, questionable inclusion. But I’m sticking with him!
Regardless of whether you agree with me on dubbing each of these singers a part of the alt-80’s scene or not, I can proclaim that each is uber talented! And I am a big fan of each of their voices!
“Don’t Cry” was released in ’89 as a solo project of Boy George. Chances are you missed it entirely.
