A Southern Fried Birthday
A BMT Mixtape
Selfishly, I’ve been itching to do something twangier lately.
I mean, my audience is already about 4. And I know most of my peeps aren’t into country or country-adjacent music.
But, man, there’s a sliver of my Southern roots that can’t help but love it!
When I learned that it was my pal’s birthday yesterday, I knew I’d create a mixtape in her honor.
Actually, I had been planning on making one for her anyway. She was one of my earliest followers, then life caught up to her and she disappeared from Medium. But I never forgot about her!
Suddenly she returned a few weeks ago!
More than anyone on Medium, she is my musical sister and I’m delighted to celebrate her birthday today!
I’m so glad you’re back, Alison E Rogers! Thanks for being a beacon of positivity on Medium!
Happy birthday, my friend!
If anyone can handle the randomness of this particular mixtape, it’s you. Nonetheless, I hope I haven’t missed the mark. I wanted to do something outside the 80s box — I hope you enjoy the eccentricity of your birthday mixtape!
(And if you don’t love it, there’s a backlog of about 50 BMT mixtapes featuring the 80s that you are welcome to explore!)
I don’t get to feature Kelly Clarkson nearly enough. Usually, I have to sneak her in.
Today I’m giving her a place of prominence. I’m going to let her belt out “Whole Lotta Woman” to kick off this celebratory collection of tunes.
Everything about this song and performance is unapologetic. And I love it!
